The Best Responses to the State of the Union
Last night, President Donald Trump gave his third State of the Union (SOTU) address. Trump addressed a wide range of topics, but his lie-laden speech was anythng but representative of the true state of our union. To help sort out fact from fiction, here are CAP's six favorite responses to Trump's claims in his address to the nation.
"We are advancing with unbridled optimism and lifting high our citizens of every race, color, religion, and creed." - President Donald Trump

Trump said he’s “uplifting individuals of every race, color, and religion”? Tell that to your Muslim ban.
"Working with Senate Majority Leader McConnell and his colleagues in the Senate, we have confirmed a record number of 187 new Federal judges to uphold our Constitution as written." - President Donald Trump

Trump is delivering his State of the Union address during #BlackHistoryMonth and brags about his federal judges.

KNOW THIS: Trump hasn't named a single African-American circuit court nominee. In 3+ years.

It's a deeply disturbing setback for judicial diversity in America.
"I am thrilled to report to you tonight that our economy is the best it has ever been." - President Donald Trump

In tonight’s #SOTU, Trump is going to paint a rosy picture of his ‘greatest economy ever.’ But for people who aren’t millionaires, that’s not even close to reality.

I know because we asked them. THREAD:
"And we will always protect your Medicare and your Social Security." - President Donald Trump

Trump's LATEST attack on Social Security happened LAST WEEK. A notice of rulemaking to cut hundreds of thousands off the roles by overly bureaucratizing the continuing disability review process. #CripTheVote #SOTU
"I have also made an ironclad pledge to American family: We will always protect patients with preexisting conditions." - President Donald Trump

That's false. Trump is actively undermining pre-ex protections by supporting a lawsuit to overturn the ACA. He's also made it easier for insurance companies to sell plans that aren't subject to ACA protections and do discriminate based on medical history.
Outrage at Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) ripping up Trump's speech at the conclusion of State of the Union address.

Folks are more outraged with @SpeakerPelosi
ripping up the speech in half than with the fact that Trump has ripped families apart at the border. #SOTU2020

He’s ripped babies from their parents’ arms and put them in cages.

That should outrage EVERYONE!

And that's only six reasons of many to explain this:
